Posthemorrhagic Hydrocephalus in Patients with Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Occurs Independently of CSF Osmolality

چکیده
The molecular mechanisms underlying the development of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) remain incompletely understood. As disease pathogenesis often cannot be attributed to visible cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage obstructions, we here aimed elucidate whether elevated CSF osmolality following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) could potentiate formation ventricular fluid, and thereby contribute pathological accumulation observed in PHH. was determined 32 patients with acute SAH after external (EVD) placement again upon EVD removal compared from 14 healthy control subjects undergoing vascular clipping an unruptured aneurism. However, found no evidence or electrolyte concentration when that subjects. We detected difference content successful weaning versus those were shunted due Taken together, does not appear underlie PHH SAH. this patient group must thus instead other alterations associated abnormal presence blood within compartments

Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients With Communicating Hydrocephalus After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Background and Purpose Transforming growth factor-/31 (TGF-/31) is a multifunctional polypeptide that controls the production of extracellular matrix protein. Platelets store a large quantity of TGF-/31, which is released at hemorrhage. We recently reported that human recombinant TGF-/31 induced communicating hydrocephalus in mice. The aim of this study was to determine whether TGF-01 is relate...
متن کاملAcute hydrocephalus after subarachnoid hemorrhage.
This issue of Stroke includes an important discussion of acute hydrocephalus after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), contributed by a group of investigators from The Netherlands who have made several important recent contributions to our understanding of the pathophysiology of SAH. The data of Hasan et al, derived from a careful study of 473 consecutive patients with SAH admitted within 72 hours a...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hydrocephalus is an important complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We investigated the occurrence of acute hydrocephalus in a rat SAH model. METHODS SAH was induced by endovascular perforation in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=36). Sham rats (n=8) underwent the same procedure without perforation. MRI was performed 24 hours after SAH and the volume of the ve...
متن کاملBiomarkers in Neonatal Posthemorrhagic Hydrocephalus
Posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) is a rare but serious outcome among premature babies in the NICU, with consequences including mortality and severe neurodevelopmental disabilities. The causes of PHH are still not entirely understood, and its prevention and treatment are controversial. Various cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers have been studied in infants with PHH in order to recognize the cause...
متن کاملComparative Efficacy of Meloxicam and Placebo in Vasospasm of Patients with Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Cerebral vasospasm considered to be a serious cause of morbidity and mortality following subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH).Despite several available therapeutic options, current protocols do not prevent major consequences of vasospasm. Inflammation is believed to play an important role in post-haemorrhagic vasospasm. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The aim of this study was to...
